Frocking ceremony highlights DIA petty officer

By DIA Public Affairs

During a frocking ceremony May 30, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert pinned Information Systems Technician 3rd Class Margaret Steck to petty officer second class. Frocking often precedes a formal promotion, granting an individual the authority and responsibility of a higher rank in anticipation of an advancement.

Steck has been assigned as a desk-side support technician to DIA’s Regional Service Center Korea since September 2013. In this capacity, she provides critical IT support to United States Forces—Korea, ensuring vital intelligence in the Korean Peninsula. Her leadership during exercise KEY RESOLVE resulted in seamless support to multiple installations throughout the area. KEY RESOLVE is a combined and joint computer-assisted, command and control exercise between U.S. and Republic of Korea forces.

Going beyond the call of duty, Steck serves as a certified command sexual assault victim advocate for DIA employees and sailors in Korea. She also volunteers at an English camp for Korean and U.S. children. At DIA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., DIA Director Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn recognized Steck as DIA's joint junior enlisted member of the quarter in May 2014.
