The DIA Torch Award was established in 2011. DIA will select and honor a small number of individuals every five years in an awards ceremony that recognizes contributions that have had lasting impacted the Agency's successes and accomplishments, are clearly identifiable, changed the direction and scope of defense intelligence operations, or increased the value of the activities for national decision makers or military commanders.
Any current or former Department of Defense or Intelligence Community employee may nominate an individual as a potential candidate for the DIA Torch Bearers Award. A selection panel, appointed by the director and comprised of seven members, is chaired by the Chief of Staff and includes two senior executives currently serving in the Agency, a military member (O-6 or higher) on assignment to DIA, two DIA civilian retirees, and the DIA Historian. The panel reviews all nominations and then makes its recommendations to the Director, DIA for a final decision.
