On May 26, DIA Director Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart spoke at DIA's Memorial Day Observance and honored the men and women who have fallen in defense of the United States. Lt. Gen. Stewart asked that we, "remember the 1.27 million Americans who spilled their blood for this great nation over the past 239 years," including 25 of DIA's own men and women whose names are engraved in DIA’s Patriots Memorial. Going further, he remarked that Memorial Day, “is a day of prayer for permanent peace so that more might not have to give their lives on the altar of freedom.”
