WASHINGTON – The Defense Intelligence Agency will conduct an internal active shooter/active threat exercise at its headquarters facility in Washington, D.C., this week. This is an emergency management exercise conducted in accordance with the National Incident Management System and the Department of Defense Installation Emergency Management Program.
The exercise is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23. DIA officials are conducting the exercise to educate its workforce and evaluate the response to the active shooter/active threat scenario. There will be minimum disruption to operations, and officials are advising employees and building visitors that they may see and hear police activity. The exercise will require building occupants to shelter in place or evacuate as security personnel respond to the exercise situation. All facility entrances will be secured during the exercise, and no one will be able to enter the building during that time. Agency operations will return to normal at the conclusion of the exercise.
All building occupants have been notified in advance about the exercise scenario.
