National Intelligence University hosts Indonesian State Intelligence College

The National Intelligence University hosted a delegation of leaders and educators from the Indonesian State Intelligence College Feb. 4-5, otherwise known by its Indonesian acronym “STIN.” STIN is a four-year government institution offering an undergraduate degree in intelligence and is exploring the addition of a graduate-level intelligence program. This visit provided STIN the opportunity to examine the well-established graduate programs of NIU, one of the few government institutions in the world offering accredited masters degrees in intelligence.

The two-day visit included detailed discussions on the curricula and educational processes of both NIU and STIN. The delegation met with NIU leadership and managers from various university programs, including NIU’s College of Strategic Intelligence, the Oettinger School of Science and Technology Intelligence, the Center for Intelligence Research, and the Center for International Engagement. Just as important, the delegation conducted discussions with both students and faculty. After observing a graduate class session, the delegation engaged in a wide-ranging dialogue with a panel of NIU faculty on the nature and issues of teaching graduate intelligence courses.

While the visit provided an excellent forum to bring together educators with the common goal of delivering an elite education in intelligence, it also proved to be a valuable opportunity to build future professional links. As one Indonesian visitor remarked, “We greatly appreciate NIU providing us this chance to explore potential collaboration between two institutions with such similar missions.”

NIU is an accredited degree-granting institution whose main campus is located in Washington, D.C. Its faculty consists of subject matter experts from around the intelligence community who bring a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the classroom. NIU offers two master’s programs, a bachelor’s degree completion program and specialized certificates in intelligence topics.
