Officers in the counterintelligence (CI) career field perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the Defense Intelligence Agency’s (DIA) mission. From technical operations to insider threat investigations, officers in the CI career field safeguard the Nation from foreign adversarial threats. CI officers detect, identify, assess, exploit, counter, and neutralize the damaging efforts by foreign entities.

In an everchanging, dynamic global threat environment, CI officers develop and execute strategies that defeat our adversaries’ attempts to harm us. Often collaborating across the Intelligence Community and U.S. Government, CI officers use logic, expertise, and ingenuity to protect the Nation from subversive activities like sabotage and espionage.

DIA is seeking candidates who are mature, intelligent, and possess strong oral and written communication skills.

• CI agents collect, protect, and report information related to foreign intelligence entities’ capabilities and intentions.
• CI Agents conduct interviews and provide briefings to educate the workforce on foreign threats.
• CI Agents operate independently and must make sound judgments.
• CI Agents regularly interact with DIA personnel, as well as civilian law enforcement, intelligence officers, and security agency personnel, to execute CI activities.

Officers in this specialty gather information and conduct activities that conceal true identity and/or assert false information in order to support and enable authorized activities and lawful missions.

Candidates for positions in the CI career field at DIA will take part in a comprehensive vetting process to ensure we are the right fit for you. First, a team of CI officers with a broad spectrum of experience will consider your application. If your resume is selected, then you will be invited to interview with a diverse panel of hiring managers. After this point, you will begin the security clearance process and enter into our hiring pool. Based on your preferences and the needs of the Agency, new hires will receive position offers from DIA intelligence centers or combatant commands.
