Using overhead reconnaissance photography, DIA’s John Hughes, special assistant to DIA Director Lt. Gen. Joseph Carroll, conducts a televised briefing on the removal of soviet missiles from Cuba, Feb. 6, 1963. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara asked Hughes to give the briefing in order to quell rumors that the soviets still had nuclear missiles in Cuba.
