This Week in DIA History: Remembering the first DIA employee killed in the line of duty

On June 10, 1970, Palestinian gunmen murdered Assistant Army Attaché MAJ Robert Perry in Amman, Jordan. The gunmen shot Perry through the door of his house during an uprising against the Jordanian government. After this violent incident, the U.S. briefly considered deploying troops to Jordan, but the violence ended two days later on June 12. Three months later, Jordan erupted in a civil war—a time known as Black September. MAJ Perry was the first DIA employee to lose his life in the line of duty and is remembered on DIA's Patriots Memorial at DIA Headquarters.
