Defense Intelligence Agency Excels in Feds Feed Families Donations
August 09, 2012
The federal-wide Feds Feed Families (FFF) Food Drive is enthusiastically underway with Department of Defense employees from across all agencies stepping up to meet this year's challenge by gathering 1.5 million pounds of food for families in need. The annual campaign has had an outstanding beginning at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), already surpassing last year's totals with more than 1 ton of food collected to date. DIA's generous contributions have triggered a tri-weekly round of pickups from the numerous donation boxes located around DIA Headquarters.
Collection efforts have also sparked a five-week, friendly competition between DIA's senior leaders to see who can collect the most food. Team members encourage one another to bring in as many pounds of food as possible. The food is then dropped off on the way to work in the collection boxes throughout DIA facilities. As the weeks run down, the seniors have surpassed their numbers from previous weeks in hopes of being the number one donors overall and having top bragging rights.
Friendly competition not only brews in the office but on the putting green as well. DIA entered four of its best golf players to compete against other government colleagues in the Feds Feed Families Golf Tournament, held at Bristow Manor Golf Club, Bristow, Va. on July 29th. To enter the competition each agency's team donated 200 lbs. of food, with the tournament winners able to collect and donate all winnings to the food bank on behalf of their agency. Having that natural competitive nature, DIA hoped to bring home the goods of possibly more than a ton of food to donate to the Capital Area Food Bank, even sponsoring a hole by donating an additional 250 lbs. of food. While DIA came out in the middle of the pack, with the overall tournament won by another agency, the event generously raised more than 2 tons of food for the Northern Virginia Food Bank.
DIA is the nation’s premier all-source military intelligence organization.
It provides the nation’s most authoritative assessments of foreign military intentions and capabilities. The agency’s four core competencies -- human intelligence, all-source analysis, counterintelligence and technical intelligence -- enable military operations while also informing policy-makers at the defense and national levels.
DIA’s mission is unique and no other agency matches its military expertise across such a broad range of intelligence disciplines.
