Federal Computer Week honors Michael Mestrovich as Industry Leader
Defense Intelligence Agency's Michael Mestrovich recognized as one of the "Federal 100" top executives for outstanding contributions to the federal IT community

Federal Computer Week announced DIA's Michael H. Mestrovich as one of the "Federal 100" top executives from government, industry and academia demonstrating great impact on the government information systems community in 2011. Mestrovich was recognized for his sense of duty, commitment to excellence and devotion to public service on behalf DIA and more specifically, for his overseeing one of the largest virtualization and desktop replacement and augmentation efforts within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the intelligence community (IC).
As senior technology officer for solutions in DIA's directorate for Information Management and Chief Information Officer (DS), Mestrovich is responsible for all technology support for mission-critical needs, taking the lead in the research and evaluation of next-generation IT solutions. This includes identifying IT products, tools, environments, systems and methodologies for their applicability to improve the analytic process and better serve military operations.
Throughout 2011, Mestrovich's leadership kept the agency-wide virtualization and desktop replacement effort known as the Next Generation Desktop Environment (NGDE) on track, providing for enhanced performance on the thin client desktops, and bringing procedures for systems and application upgrade.
"The Federal 100 Awards recognize governmental and industry leaders who have played pivotal roles in the federal government IT community. DS is proud that one of our own, Mike Mestrovich, is being recognized for this unique honor. Mike exemplifies the can-do spirit and uncompromising integrity that our customers expect and deserve. He represents the 'best of the best' of our understanding workforce and is well-deserving of this honor," said DIA's chief information officer, Grant Schneider.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, Mestrovich has been a member of DIA's IT workforce since 2008. Along with other members of an elite community of government professionals, industry executives and academic scholars, Mestrovich was honored at the 23rd Annual Federal Awards Gala at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C., on March 28. Guests included leading government executives and a veritable "who's who" of the government information technology community.
The winners were nominated by Federal Computer Week readers and selected by an independent panel of judges. Special Eagle Awards were presented to one government official and one industry executive for outstanding contributions to the federal IT community.
