CITATION to accompany the award of the
Joint Meritorious Unit Award to the
Defense Intelligence Agency

The Defense Intelligence Agency Distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious achievement from April 1999 to April 2002. The Agency consistently provided timely, objective, and cogent intelligence required by the President, the Secretary of Defense, and the combatant commanders to achieve national objectives. The Agency’s collection activities, all-source analytical products, and services to the Intelligence Community were crucial to Department of Defense efforts to defend the nation and resolve a broad range of crises throughout the world. The Defense Intelligence Agency’s determined efforts to modernize analytical methodologies, leverage sophisticated information technologies, and support the warfighter, tremendously enhance the country’s ability to quickly adapt to the rapidly evolving security environment of the 21st century and respond to the global war on terrorism. By their exemplary performance of duty, the members of the Defense Intelligence Agency brought great credit to themselves and to the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Given under my hand this 7th day of October 2002
