CITATION to accompany the award of the
Joint Meritorious Unit Award to the
Defense Intelligence Agency

The Defense Intelligence Agency distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious service from 1 July 1992 to 1 June 1994. During this period, the Defense Intelligence Agency provided an unprecedented level of intelligence support encompassing the full range of intelligence analyses, technical services, photographic exploitation and dissemination and intelligence communications to meet the real-time requirements of national decision makers and joint and coalition military commanders. Responding directly to immediate contingency requirements, the Agency provided vital intelligence to the White House and senior officials during operations in Iraq, to policymakers and on-site operational units in Somalia, offshore Haiti and supporting United Nations Forces in the former Yugoslavia, and to decsion makers during periods in Russia and on the Korean Peninsula. Implementing revolutionary advances in crisis management the Agency demonstrated it's commitment by providing the critical information required by tactical commanders, without which success may not have been achieved and national objectives would not have been realized. By their exemplary performance of duty, the members of the Defense Intelligence Agency have brought great credit to themselves and to the Department of defense.

Given under my hand this 29th day of August, 1994
[ signed ]
William Perry
Secretary of Defense
