JMUA Awarded 2011

Citation to Accompany the Award of the Joint Meritorious Unit Award to the Defense Intelligence Agency

The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious achievement from 1 August 2008 to 31 July 2011. Meeting the challenges of developing global issues while transforming itself to address evolving worldwide threats, the Agency provided superior and decisive military- and defense-related intelligence to the President, the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and to United States and Allied warfighters. Faced with increasingly uncertain national security events, the Agency consistently responded to some of the most complex and demanding intelligence issues since the end of the Cold War, establishing rapid response elements to manage emerging threats to national interests abroad to include: transnational terrorism, North Korean aggression against South Korea, the Arab Spring and the Libya crisis that has consumed North Africa and the Middle East, tsunami after-effects on Japan's Fukushima nuclear power plant, and the unprecedented disclosure of hundreds of thousands of DoD documents on the WikiLeaks website. The extraordinary dedication of Agency personnel was directly responsible for the identification, pursuit, and capture or death of key adversaries, as well as the provision of vital information essential to maintaining our national security. By their exemplary performance of duty, the members of the Defense Intelligence Agency brought great credit upon themselves and to the Department of Defense.
