British Military Liaison Mission in East Germany, by Unknown Artist 
In 1947, the US, USSR, British, and French signed a series of agreements establishing military liaison missions accredited to the Allied and Soviet occupation zones.  The US, British, and French missions operated from Berlin and observed military activities in the East Germany until the withdrawal of Soviet forces and the reunification of Germany.  The US Military Liaison Mission was deactivated on 1 October 1990.
