Libyan SA-5 Anti-Aircraft Missile, by Ronald C. Wittmann, 1986
The Soviet Union deployed the SA-5 GAMMON surface-to-air missile during the late 1960s through the early 1980s. It is among thousands of tons of weaponry shipped to the Soviet client states in the 1980s. Replaced in Russia in the 1990s with the more capable SA-10, the surplus SA-5s were sold to countries around the world, and remain a potential threat to US aircraft in crisis regions.
