Major General Thomas W. Geary, USAF

Deputy Director for Strategic Integration


Major General Thomas Geary serves as the Deputy Director for Strategic Integration (DDSI), Headquarters Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), Washington D.C. As the Agency’s Operations Officer (J3), he is responsible to the Director, DIA, for daily operations in managing intelligence requirements, determining performance standards, directing the plans and exercise functions (J35, J5, J7), and overseeing critical inter-Agency operational integration while enabling the synchronization of defense intelligence enterprise resources against the Nation’s top security priorities for the Combatant Commands, the Joint Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and national level agencies.

Prior to his current assignment, Gen. Geary served as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.; and as the National Intelligence Manager for Aviation under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Gen. Geary is a native of Connecticut and was commissioned in 1988 as a distinguished graduate of the ROTC program at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. After commissioning, he served in the missile operations career field as Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Combat Crew Commander and Instructor before transitioning to the intelligence career field.

He has commanded at the squadron, group, wing and joint levels; and throughout his career, he has held a variety of leadership positions in various Air Force major commands, combatant commands – including the Director of Intelligence (J2) for U.S. Southern Command, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency; as well as being deployed to Afghanistan serving on the senior staff of Headquarters International Security Assistance Force (ISAF – NATO) and U.S. Forces – Afghanistan.
